our history
The INTERKULTURALNI PL Association is an independent, apolitical social organization founded in 2010 in Krakow by academics from various fields of science and research centers in order to conduct activities in the field of cultural diversity, education and respect for human rights.
During 10 years of activity, the Association has become an important institution in the field of research on intercultural relations and migration, both locally and regionally, nationwide and internationally. Due to their affiliations, members of the Association cooperate on a daily basis with the Jagiellonian University and other universities, as well as think-tanks in the country and abroad. Currently, thanks to the brand developed over the years, the Association is a partner of the University of Economics in Krakow as part of the Observatory of Multiculturalism and Migration, an institution established to obtain research knowledge about migrations for the needs of local government.
In its history, the organization has implemented a number of projects aimed at the effective integration of migrants, education of the host society and promotion of non-European cultures. Many of them have become good practices worth repeating and implementing elsewhere. Some of these projects have been recognized as good practice at European level by the European Commission of the EU.
Currently, the Association is a partner in the MiCREATE project implemented under the Horizon 2020 program, aimed at a comprehensive examination of the situation of children with experience of migration and their relations with local children.
Continuing the mission for effective intercultural education, the Association established cooperation with the Foundation for the Support of Polish Culture and Language. Mikołaja Rej, co-creating with her the Academy of Intercultural Competences. Our experts are co-authors of the local, municipal integration strategy for migrants, adopted by the City Council in September 2016 as the “Open Krakow” Program.
In 2021, the Association will be a partner in another research project carried out under the Horizon 2020 program, run by the University of Bologna under the name “New ABC”. At the moment, mainly scientific activities, the employees of the Association also carry out numerous activities for the benefit of migrants and together with migrants, among others as part of the Małopolska Friendly to Foreigners program, financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. They co-create the Information Point for Foreigners in Krakow, where they are responsible for the legal advice department.
In 2016, the Association and the Vice-President of the Management Board of the organization were nominated for the “Golden Wachlarze” award, awarded by the International Migration Organization to people and institutions distinguished in their activities for the benefit of migrants and migrant women. The association is a laureate of the title of Krakow Ambassador of Multiculturalism AD 2018, and two members of the Management Board of the organization were awarded the Polcul Foundation Prize in 2018 for their activities for an open and multicultural society.
